Vanford FA 2500 HG SHIMANO Spinning Reel
The Vanford is one of Shimano's most sensitive spinning reels. Perfect for a wide range of finesse fishing styles, the Vanford is part of the Magnumlite series and pushes the boundaries of technology and engineering, offering remarkable finesse that you can actually feel and will certainly appreciate.
The inertia required to set the Vanford rotor in motion is almost imperceptible. It's hard to describe the feeling, but try it and you'll immediately understand what we mean. The sensitivity and lightness provide better control and with control comes more effective fishing and therefore more success. Everyone wins and when it comes to light lure fishing combos, there are very few models that can compete with the Vanford. Combine it with any good quality light lure rod and you will get a good balance, allowing you to fish better, longer and increase your enjoyment to higher levels than you thought.
The sensitivity of the Vanford is achieved thanks to the MGL rotor, which, like the body, is designed from Shimano's exclusive Ci4+ composite material. That's also why the reel feels so light in hand. Internally, the HAGANE Gear, MicroModule II, X-SHIP, InfinityDrive, InfinityXross and Silent Drive technologies work together harmoniously to provide exceptional smoothness and great strength. The Vanford is also equipped with Shimano's Duracross drag, which offers precise control to secure the catch of very combative fish. The Anti-Twist Fin controls the pressure exerted on the line as it passes the roller. It is especially useful when fishing with very light lures.
How to choose your Vanford reel
Each indication in the reference (example VFC3000XGA) will help you choose the right reel for you, knowing that VF indicates the model, here Vanford.
The 4 (or 3) digit number indicates the size, 500 for stream trout, 2000 for vertical or trout, 2500 the standard size for freshwater lure fishing, 3000 and 4000 for pike or sea bass, 5000 for sea lure fishing.
C = Compact, the spool is a normal spool of the indicated size, but the body is compact, for example a C2500 will have a 2000 body, it is ultimately an intermediate size between a 2000 and a 2500.
S / M = Shallow or Match, a spool with lower capacity to avoid putting a backing before your braid, a Match will have more capacity than a Shallow.
HG and XG = indicates the gear ratio, you retrieve more line per handle turn with an HG, and even more with an XG. A high ratio is ideal for fishing that leaves slack in action (upstream casting / jerks) but on the other hand they are less comfortable with lures that resist retrieval (spinner, crank, etc.). If the reel reference does not include HG or XG it is a classic non-multiplied ratio, recommended for spinner for example.
DH = double handle.
A = reel generation, here for the Vanford the A is the generation after the first Vanford which had no letter.
| Reference | Capacity | Weight (g) | Ratio | Bearings | Drag (kg) | Retrieve (cm) |
| 500 | 110m 20/100 | 140 | 5.6/1 | 6+1 | 2.5 | 69 |
